Comparison Living

vision
Posted on October 7, 2025 By Sister Rain

I realize that many of my stories involve me comparing my life now to when I had full sight. I felt it important to clarify that while I do not live in the past nor do I pine for it, the comparison does, unconsciously, happen all the time. Having lived over four decades with proper vision, experiencing life with little sight is still new in relation. I have often wondered if it will be this way until the day that I die.

Sometimes the then and now does hurt or make me sad, but mostly the thought comes quickly and leaves just as fast. The memory appears in my mind’s eye because it cannot be duplicated by my actual eyes. It is similiar to when we lose someone we love. Over time, hopefully, we can think about them without the excruciating pain of their absence, and we can remember them, carry them with us, even feeling their presence at times. It just happens with no premeditation. They are because they once were.

If we are very lucky, we can learn to live in harmony with both.
