All Cleaned Up And Lots Of Places To Go

Posted on January 30, 2026 By Sister Rain

My husband and I recently did a big clean of Piper’s mansion, taking all the toys and perches out, washing them, rolling the empty mansion onto the front porch where I scrubbed it down. We do this twice a year in addition to regular weekly cleanings.

The first step, Mister Rain takes photos of all the toys and perches so we know where they go when it is time to put them back.

And yet Piper seems to have noticed what we have done. He, of course, was a spectator to all of it and surely he knows things were returned to their previous spots.

Piper sleeps on the top perch of his mansion, quietly playing with one of his toys until he is ready for sleep, at which point he moves to the other side of that perch and pulls his “sleep buddy” toy close to him. However, since we did the big clean, my husband reports that Piper is sleeping on the opposite end of the perch.

Also, we have two boxes for Piper to play in during the day, both with paper and toys inside. After years of using the one, we introduced a second of a different size about six months ago and from that point on, he never went in the original box. That is, until we did the big clean. These boxes are not in the mansion so why cleaning the mansion would impact which box he plays in is a mystery.

These changes in Piper’s habits are not important, but they are interesting. All that matters is that Piper always has options to choose from. Mister Rain and I will always make sure that Piper is never bored.

In turn, without even trying, Piper will never be boring to us.
