I have been told by a veterinarian that when Piper sidles up close to one of his toys, lifts one of his legs to rub his neck and head with that foot, it is a form of self-soothing. When we first brought Piper home from A Helping Wing Parrot Rescue and Sanctuary, I could completely understand his need to comfort himself. Thirteen years later, I believe the act still serves the same purpose, but in a more ordinary way, similar to me watching one of my favorite rom-coms for the five hundredth time.
Whatever the true reason for it, Piper is downright adorable in this pose: blissful, not a care in the world. Oh, how I sometimes wish I was Piper. But I am something better. I am Piper’s mom.
