Drive Through The Tulips With Me

I recently paid a visit to Dalton Farms in Swedesboro, New Jersey. Family owned and operated since 1790, it was covered in vibrantly colored tulips for as far as the eye could see. Or in my case, as far as the photos I later enlarge can capture.

Using my trekking poles (“Trekking With Poles”), I carefully made my way from the parking lot to the area where we could purchase tickets. A gentlemen in a mule (think golf cart for a farm) pulled up to my husband and me, introducing himself as Cliff, then offering to drive us around the property. We gratefully accepted and because of his kindness, we were able to see all that the farm has to offer.

It was a chilly, cloudy April day, but the weather did nothing to diminish the beauty of one million tulips, planted in November.

In the midst of the endless rows of flowering plants, there was a windmill, transporting us, just for a moment, to Holland.

There was also a large lighthouse which Cliff explained had come from someone in Lancaster, Pennsylvaia. Wanting to get rid of it, its previous owner offered it to Dalton Farms. They couldn’t resist. Who could?

A giant slide was set up and we passed a lake on our tour, waiting patiently for summer. A destination for all seasons, we will return for their fall festival featuring sunflowers and pumpkins.

After thanking Cliff, we left, heading next to several historic sights in the area. It felt just right the first of the day was a 234-year-old farm, covered in the promise of spring.
