Love Language

life
Posted on July 9, 2025February 17, 2026 By Sister Rain

What is your love language? Do you even know what that is or what the options are? Sister Rain is here to help.

Love language is how you express and communicate your love to your partner, and vice versa. The five types are:

  • Acts Of Service
  • Receiving Gifts
  • Quality Time
  • Words Of Affirmation
  • Physical Touch

Until very recently I considered mine to be Words Of Affirmation, which is no surprise given I love to read and write (arithmetic, not so much).

Last week I decided to add a hair tool storage holder to the inside of my bathroom closet to hold my new hair straightener and blow dryer brush. My 120-year-old home has no linen closet, a small bathroom and narrow vanity, therefore, creativity is necessary for stowing all the things you would find in the “Pharmacy” of Target or Walmart as well as spare towels.

Not wanting to drill holes in the bathroom closet door I began an online search for a repository that would hang over the top of the door. Finding that that type would not work due to my height as well as the door’s, I wondered if Command Strip hooks would work. There is a panel in the door that the hooks and holder would have to straddle so I asked my husband to take a look and some measurements to see if he thought it would work. He did, I placed the Amazon order, it arrived 48 hours later and the following day Mister Rain, after going to Home Depot for the hooks, installed the storage unit. We loaded my tools into their new home, closed the door to find that the holder and its contents fit perfectly in the opening between the shelves.

I opened the bathroom closet door a few times for the remainder of the day. It made me happy to have a place for everything as it always does. It was apparent that my Love Language is not Words Of Affirmation but Acts Of Organization. Put together a piece of storage furniture for me, carry a 5-drawer cart upstairs, help me alphabetize some file folders for the file cabinet* and I will follow you anywhere. As long as the shoes you are wearing have been removed from a shoe rack organized by color and type of shoe.

* I KNOW the alphabet, I just can’t SEE the alphabet.
