Did you know that there are two castles 16 miles apart in the northern New Jersey area?
One is Lambert Castle, perched on Garret Mountain overlooking the city of Paterson. Built by Englsh silk magnate Catholina Lambert in 1892-93, he named it “Belle Vista.” Lambert continued to expand the building and in 1896, a 70-foot observation tower and summerhouse were added, as well as an art gallery.
In the early part of the twentieth century, Catholina Lambert lost much of his fortune, however, he lived in the castle until his death in 1923. Today the first floor serves as the museum for the Passaic County Historical Society.
The other castle? The Sheraton Parsippany Hotel!
