A few years ago, I finally got on the packing cube train, admittedly in the caboose in coming to this travel tool. I have used the cubes on a handful of trips since their purchase, yet I continued to be unsure of their effectiveness. In conjunction with the burrito method, rolling shirts and pants and underwear, then placing them in the cubes appeared to make the suitcase heavier, bulkier too. I did not do well in physics but I would think that a t-shirt weighs what it weighs, no matter its shape. But then how do you explain the phenomenon of dirty clothes not fitting in the suitcase for the flight home when they easily went into the luggage when they were clean? But I digress.
A recent trip to California had us staying in a different hotel every night. The only way to stay organized at each stop seemed to be the packing cubes. Labeling each cube via masking tape and a Sharpie, this, along with the different colored sets, allowed my husband and me to easily grab what we needed at each lodging.
Packing cubes, you won me over. You lived up to your reputation. You saved me a lot of time and frustration. You made each of the eight check-ins and check-outs painless, plus once home, unpacking items not going into the washing machine was quick, helping to lessen the blow of reality.
Packing cubes: they will help keep you squared away.
