Once my husband and I left Groveland, California, (click here for Iron Door Saloon), headed west to the coast, long periods of nothingness enveloped us. There were no homes, even other cars were a rarity. Cutting through what could be cause for boredom, or worse for Mister Rain behind the wheel, a nap, was the extremely steep, switchbacked, windy, hairpin-turned no-guardrail descent. Not for the feint of heart, we both loved it, however, my husband’s enjoyment was slightly lessened by his efforts to keep us on the road.
In life and in travel, all we need are some twists and turns to keep things interesting. The shortest distance between two points is a straight line. What fun is that?
