Whenever my husband and I begin to plan a trip, after deciding on the where, the next step is to narrow down the when, in order to find the who. Who will watch Piper while we are gone?
Most recently, deciding what month we wanted to travel, I did a deep investigation into flights. Which airlines fly direct? What times? What seats? What price?
I found a great fare but the area of seats we were interested in was going fast. Time was of the essence. Having checked one of our favorite Piper sitter’s online calendar, I texted her with the dates, explaining that when I did go to book the flights, the schedule may shift one day later, depending on the airline’s availability. As I hit send on the message, there was a great possibility that we wouldn’t be going anywhere if no one could stay with Piper while we were gone.
It took less than an hour to hear back, but let me tell you, those moments take a toll. It’s like waiting for that guy to call you after what you think was a great first date. This is way more stressful, though, because this is about exemplary temporary custody for a little soul that I love and am responsible for. The entire trip hinged on a yes. Luckily the sitter could watch Piper. As soon as I received her reply, I booked our flights.
Once Piper’s care is locked up, I am free to fly.
