We turn on an audio birdy monitor every night before we go upstairs to bed so that we can hear Piper should he need us during the night. Our previous bird, Cato, a Lutino cockatiel, was prone to nightfrights, startling and thrashing around in the dark. We have never had this same experience with Piper, but better safe than sorry.
Most mornings, I wake up fairly early and do my daily Sister Rain postings on my iPad in bed, as well as whatever else I can accomplish there. It can all take awhile, resulting in Piper beginning to stir downstairs through the speaker. Sometimes you hear him eating, the noise of food dropping to the metal grate at the bottom of the mansion, sounding like a small bomb going off.
And then there is the bell. At first a quiet jingle, there is an escalation that rivals a Salvation Army volunteer standing by their red kettle in December.
“We have our own opening bell, just like the New York Stock Exchange,” I commented to my husband one day. “It signifies the official start of the day with Piper. It marks the transition from “night night” time to the high-energy daily session, acting as a functional tool for synchronization and a ceremonial symbol of the opportunity ahead for play and love.”
On Wall Street, Common Market Trends include the Bull Market, the Bear Market and even the Dead Cat Bounce. On the street where I live, the Parrot Market prevails.
