While in Salt Lake City recently, my husband and I went by the Family Search Library, the largest genealogical research facility in the world. It is sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Free and open to the public, billions – not a typo – of physical and digital records can be found here, encompasing countries all over the world and going back centuries. There is no need to be intimidated, experts are on hand to assist you.
When Mister Rain was investigating the possibility that one of my ancestors was a Patriot in the Revolutionary War, he spent time at our local Family Search Center, finding branches and roots of my family tree, all pieces of a puzzle that would end in a certificate from the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Although our busy itinerary did not allow time to go inside, a drive-by was necessary. The Mother Ship of the Family Search Library here in Salt Lake City played an integral part in my discovery of Brigadeer General Augustine Willett, my 5x great-grandfather.
The research is a big part of the story when looking into the past. It was nice to see where it began.
