Piper has a toy that is filled with popsicle sticks and one of his favorite things to do, all day, every day, is to remove the wooden strips from the hanging block before flinging them to the ground. Sometimes you hear the ping of the stick hitting the wood floor, other times there is a metallic clang when he doesn’t quite put his back into it, causing the colorful projectile to drop onto the top deck of his mansion.
Once the toy is empty, my husband will put the tossed pieces back in so that the whole process can start over again. I am too short and have no depth perception but I do pick them up and put them in a pile for eventual return to the toy. I always thought of Piper throwing and us retrieving as reverse-fetch but it actually is fetch, with Mister Rain and I doing the fetching!
There is not one minute of the day that I am not aware that Piper has his mom and dad trained. It would be foolish to think otherwise.
Ping.
Clang.
Clang.
Clang. Clang.
Ping.
Fetch is not a competitive sport, but it wouldn’t matter if it was. As long as we stick together, we are all winners.
