“You’ve got a Piper poop on your shoulder,” I tell my husband. He was wearing a dark blue shirt so I could see the light spot.
“It’s not a poop, it’s a hole,” he informed me.
There is a current, popular expression: This is why we can’t have nice things. The expression in our house is: This is why we have inside and outside shirts.
Both Mister Rain and I can usually tell when a dropping is coming, allowing for a catch in a tissue. As for the chewing of holes, we don’t necessarily allow it, but just like poop, holes happen.
There are times when we forget. My husband was at cardiac rehab (the gym) one day and a nurse there told him he had something on his shoulder. It was a poop, but if it had been a hole it wouldn’t have been better or worse. It just is.
Both would have been completely unacceptable to me in the past, before my heart belonged to a feathered soul with a sharp beak and an gastro system that includes every 15-20 minute evacuations.
Piper loves me enough to put up with my hair in a bun and the rest of my at-home appearance. And I love Piper enough to carry the evidence of him on my shoulder.
