Going through the pictures from a recent trip, one showed something on the road.
“Is this a porcupine?,” I asked my husband, even though I was sure it was not.
He came over to look. “No, I don’t know what that is. Part of the brush on the side of the road maybe?”
This exchange is nothing new, it happens often, both in real life and when viewing photographs. My damaged optic nerves frequently identify items incorrectly. In some cases, I honestly don’t know what I am looking at, other times my brain knows what the thing is but my vision will dispute it.
Imagine my delight when a few weeks later, while sharing the pictures with a friend, she asked me if that same thing was a porcupine! She’s got the coveted 20/20, so I’m not quite sure where her perception came from. I was shocked, then it filled me with glee.
Relationships can have some prickly moments; it’s always great when you and your people see things the same way.
