Midway, Utah

travel
Posted on September 3, 2026 By Sister Rain

Midway, Utah is a picturesque mountain town located about 45 minutes southeast of Salt Lake City. In the 1860s and 1870s, many Swiss immigrants settled here, causing Midway to be known as “Little Switzerland.”

With the breathtaking Wasatch Mountains as its backdrop, many homes and businesses feature Alpine-style architecture with steep roofs, flower boxes and decorative woodwork. The town celebrates its heritage with food, festivals and cultural events throughout the year.

While exploring the village, I kept having to remind myself that this was not a theme park; it is a home to 6,000 residents. Spending a day in Midway was a charming experience. I did wonder if the people who live here even notice the uniqueness of their city. I hope, at least occasionally, they yodel-ay-hee-do.
