If you are vertically challenged, as I am, you no doubt have become used to the car seat belt crossing closer to your neck than your chest. All 5’ 2” of me has often considered what would happen if I was ever in an accident; what would the tight strap do to my neck? I will spare you the various outcomes I have imagined.
The other day, as I reached for the seat belt to clip myself in, I accidently pressed down on the top piece of the seat belt retractor housing. And the whole mechanism slid down. At first I thought I had broken it, but then I realized what was going on. You can lower your seat belt so that if you are short, it lays where it’s supposed to.
I am sure that this capability didn’t always exist, but I have no doubt that I have lived many years in the new age of automobiles without knowing this option exists.
Just when you think you know a lot, you get in the car one morning and find that you really don’t know anything at all. Life has been and continues to be a crazy, wild ride. I finally have the ability to properly buckle up.
