In my photos app, I have a screenshot I took in January of 2021 of a dome for sale on Amazon (shown above the title of this story). I thought it would be so great to have one of these in my backyard. I figured I could take Piper outside and let him be “free” but safe. It has been a joke with my husband ever since. But was I kidding?
Then last winter I began receiving posts in my IG feed of people going out onto their back deck when it was raining or snowing, unzipping the door to their bubble tent, entering and getting cozy under a blanket while an electric fireplace warmed the space. Each was more beautifully decorated than the next, complete with inviting chairs, plush pillows, area rugs, even a chandelier! I WAS OBSESSED!
So when I began to plan a trip to Utah and stumbled upon Clear Sky Resorts in Cannonville, my heart began to race. Located 16 miles from Bryce Canyon National Park, slated to be one of our stops on our tour around the state, I got excited. Until, that is, I saw the price for one night’s stay. Another factor was that we had no idea when we would get to the area, we were winging our nightly accommodations, finding a place to stay each evening when Mister Rain was tired of driving or we reached a destination. I showed him the website and he was instantly captivated as well.

Fast forward to us being in Utah. Having covered a lot of ground once our plane touched down in Salt Lake City, by the first night we knew we would get to Bryce Canyon some time the next day. My husband went on Clear Sky’s website and found that there was only one dome available for that date. It was half price with another discount on top of that! I’ve never seen his hunt-and-peck fingers move so fast on a device, except when he is buying Seahawks tickets. This was really happening. We were staying in our own private dome.
Let me get this out of the way: they all have their own full bathrooms, complete with a shower.
As we neared the resort the following afternoon, the road was slightly elevated, suspending us above the canyon valley below. “All you can see is a village of domes,” Mister Rain shared in awe.
Those were the last words I heard before one of the most special experiences of my life began.
To be continued . . .
