Sister Rain Note:
I have not received any compensation for writing this story.
When my husband and I road trip, even if we’re just going to be gone for the day, we usually stop for a coffee, most of the time iced. For some reason, a cold beverage seems more fitting for a day in the car, you get the pep and the refreshment!
Frost Buddy makes insulated stainless-steel drink holders. You may be thinking, Who doesn’t? The difference with Frost Buddy is that you can place your takeout cup right inside it instead of pouring the drink into it. (Although you can also use it as a regular 32-oz tumbler. Just pour in your drink. A lid come with this Buddy.)
The company offers several types of drink containers, including one where you can set a can or bottle into, but I only had eyes for their To-Go Buddy. You buy your drive-thru / takeout soda, lemonade or iced coffee and simply drop the entire disposable cup into it. Dunkin’, McDonald’s, Starbucks and Wawa (IYKYK) as well as many other chains’ 12-, 16-, 20- and 30-oz; To-Go Buddy accommodates them all. Pop the silicone ring onto the rim of the Buddy to create a snug fit that keeps small and medium cups from being too deep in the Buddy. Larger cup? Remove the silicone insert completely so the bigger size can slide in properly. Easy, iced latte peasy!
But Sister Rain, I don’t like cold drinks, only hot!
No worries, the To-Go Buddy works with hot beverages as well.
To-Go Buddy will of course fit in your car’s cup holder, but we also use it at home if we’ve run out for a coffee to enjoy there.
The To-Go Buddy can keep drinks cold for up to 24+ hours and hot for 6+ hours. I can confirm this is true. We recently left a bit of beverage from Starbucks in both our Buddies overnight in a parking garage, and the next morning the drinks were still cold and the ice had not melted.
They come in many colors and designs. I chose a Sister Rain blue for Mister Rain (okay, technically it’s royal blue) and an American flag for myself.
I now pack the To-Go Buddies if we’re flying somewhere; they are important enough to us to give them precious, at-a-premium space in our suitcase. Because even if we’re traveling by air, once we land there will be lots of driving and exploring. After all, those Roadside Attractions aren’t going to meet us at the airport!
I am fairly certain that when the Frost Buddies arrived via UPS one day, my husband was unimpressed. Now, though, without fail, every time we use them he says, “These were a great idea.”
I’ll cheers to that . . . with my iced-cold, hour-old iced vanilla latte.
