I write my stories a week at a time, going through the process of a first draft, tweaking, choosing photos, loading everything into the platform WordPress and proofing. I try to write whenever I can so when my schedule doesn’t allow it, I have stories in reserve.
Knowing that a trip was coming up that would have me away from home for eight days and returning a few weeks before Christmas, I wanted to make sure I had stories written through vacation and into the new year so that I wasn’t unduly stressed.
I keep several lists where I track ideas, titles and the Instagram captions for upcoming postings, but I wanted a simple visual way that even a blind girl could use to monitor how many stories I needed to finish to achieve my target goal prior to my departure.
I decided to use a paper tablet, writing a number on each page, starting at 35, the amount of stories I had to finish, and ending at 0. I hung the tablet from the china cabinet drawer in my dining room, as I often write at the nearby table.
What started out as a serious tool turned into a game and a cause for celebration when I tore a page off myself or I asked my husband to do so. When finally there were no pages left, I could fully turn my attention to trip preparation.
I love technology; I write all my stories using a tablet of the present, my iPad. But I kept track of them with a tablet of the past.
With two tablets
I reach my goal
One is modern
The other old.
