Blue Thunder

Posted on February 5, 2026 By Sister Rain

The Seattle Seahawks drumline, Blue Thunder, is a talented team of musicians who incorporate rock and roll drumming with drum corps style. Established in 2004, they perform at Lumen Field before, during and after Seahawks games. You will hear them before you see them, and that applies to everyone, not just those of us with a visual impairment.

Walking towards Lumen Field for a Seahawks game last year, Blue Thunder was coming from the opposite direction. Their music immediately traveled through me, from the rumbling vibration under my feet to the pom pom atop my winter Seahawks hat.

Marching into formation right in front of my husband and me, Blue Thunder executed intricate footwork with perfect precision and synchronicity. They danced, cheered and chanted in unison, all while not only carrying instruments but playing them masterfully.

Their pride, support and enthusiasm for the Seattle Seahawks reflected what all the 12s (fans of the Seahawks, representing the “12th Man” on the field alongside the 11 players) were experiencing around the stadium before the game.

In four days from this post’s publication, the Seahawks will play in Super Bowl LX. I will be at home, across the country from both San Francisco, where the championship game will take place, as well as Seattle. But I will be wearing my Seahawks jersey and hat, sipping a Rainier beer in my living room, at a pep rally of three with Mister Rain and Piper prior to kickoff. Blue Thunder will perform, the videos accompanying this story and several others mirrored to my TV.

And though thousands of miles apart, I will feel the rumble of Blue Thunder as I root for the Seahawks to the beat of my own drum.

GO HAWKS!!!
