What do you put on your hot dog? I am a mustard and relish gal.
How about a hamburger? I use only ketchup.
I remember when I was young relish was sold in a jar, like grape jelly, and Ketchup came in a tall glass bottle. But, of course, now both are packaged in plastic squeeze bottles. Two labels cover both sides, the front stating what is inside, the back showing ingredients and manufacturer information, in essence blocking the contents.
For someone like me, it is a challenge to determine which is which. Both look the same color to me. I could add bump dots to one of the bottles to differentiate the two but honestly I don’t use ketchup or mustard all that much, so I forget until the next time comes when I once again take the wrong condiment out of the fridge.
I usually realize what has happened as I am squeezing one or the other above the hamburger or hot dog, then I can often identify either the smooth ketchup or the chunky relish. There are other instances when I don’t notice the condiment texture and I am completely surpirsed when I take my first bite.
This, of course, is not the end of the world but it is one of many daily little things that has changed for me.
The next time you ketchup on your gratitude journal, relish your sight.
