I used to love looking at the world below during air travel, but since my vision loss, my ability to see what is out the window is limited to the clouds (the white) and the sky (the blue). In the case of the photo above the title of this story, my husband told me to take a picture out the window so that I could enlarge it on my iPhone to look at what was out there.
Had we not boarded a 737, instead buckling ourselves into a space rocket? What planet was I looking at? Mister Rain pointed out that the entire surface was covered in snow, with several roads visible if you blew up the image.
The subject of the picture was not another world, it was South Dakota in early December. It was bright, it was white and it was beautiful.
I have not yet had the pleasure of setting foot in South Dakota, but viewing her in all her winter glory from the air gave me a glimpse of the state whose motto, and attitude, is “Great Faces, Great Places.”
They should add, “From Any Altitude.”
