Even though I want my house to be neat and clean at all times, sharing your life and home with a parrot does not align with this objective. My rigidness about the house’s tidiness has lessened way beyond what I would have thought possible. Every night when Piper goes to bed, my husband and I sweep and vacuum around his mansion, but during the day when Piper is living his best life we let the toys, shredded paper and food go where they may.
One afternoon while Piper was having his snack, I took one of his Nutri-Berries out of his snack bowl and pretended to eat it, making “yum, yum, yum” sounds while taking fake bites. Although he had his face in his dish with plenty of other goodies, including other Nutri-Berries, he ran over to the edge of the table, raising his foot up indicating he wanted to be picked up. As soon as he was on my left hand he snatched the Nutri-Berry out of my right, proceeding to eat it. After a few seconds, with the Nutri-Berry, which is almost as big as his head, in his mouth he jumped onto my left shoulder to finish his treat there.
Cleanliness isn’t next to godliness. Piper’s happiness is.
