Keep Your Seat Belt Fastened At All Times

There is a phenomenon that occurs occasionally when I am in a car during the day. If I close my eyes for a bit then open them, I am sometimes startled that I cannot properly see. Is the windshield dirty? Do my eyes just need to adjust? I will blink my eyes repeatedly to clear out the snow.

For a nanosecond, I have forgotten that this is how the world looks to me now.

I don’t know why this only happens in the car or why it happens at all. After 4,780 days of this vision, it is absurd. I will admit, though, that at the second that I realize what is going on, I still continue to bat my lids, thinking that that will correct my sight. And then, inevitably, I am briefly a bit sad over the albeit quick but discombobulating experience.

These weird incidences take place in a car, but you don’t have to be in a moving vehicle to be reminded that our minds can take us on some wild rides.
