While I realize that Piper is a bird and does not wear clothes (not for my lack of trying for a Christmas card photo shoot), it still feels a bit uncomfortable to post naked photos of him in the shower. Yet I have done it before (click here) and am doing it again.
I make a deliberate point every day not to take Piper for granted. He is not the stuffed teddy bear of my youth, he is a living, breathing creature who is my family. Yet we all have so much going on in our lives, we are moving so fast we miss things because they are always there. I think writing a story each week about Piper has reminded me in a very profound way that I share my life with a parrot and, therefore, I have a very unique and privileged opportunity to experience a bird up close and personal. Looking at the photos and videos of the outside birds that visit our Bird Buddy (click here) has also brought home the fact that there is indeed an extremely special bird buddy in our family to be watched 24/7.
Piper loves his weekly shower and the pictures shown here support this. When spreads his wings to allow the water to get under them, it is a sure sign that he is completely into it.
Yes, Piper is a parrot living in a human’s world. But when I give him a shower and he is thoroughly enjoying himself, we are not in a bathroom in a house in the suburbs, we are in a tropical rain forest in South America.
And so I share naked photos of my boy in the shower. Because all sights of him are insight into a bird’s life.
