When my husband was proofing my story to be published the next day as he does everyday (typos can easily pass by my limited vision), he noticed that the hashtag “legallyblind” actually read “legallybiind.” He immediately told me, causing my stomach to drop. I copy my hashtags over from a master list every time I draft a new story, which means that if one is wrong in one place, it will definitely be incorrect in a multitude of others.
I spent the next few hours determining which stories included this mistake, making a list of them, then going into each story on the website and fixing it, then resaving it. Next, I had to check the corresponding Instagram posts because I copy those hashtags from my website hashtags, creating the exact same problem. When all was said and done, I had corrected almost 50 website posts and as many IG posts. It went more quickly than I had expected, but it was still time taken away from the roll I was on writing new stories.
As I was working on this unplanned project, Mister Rain confirmed that I want him to tell me when he sees these things. I assured him, without question, that I do. I need his eyes and am grateful for them.
When we went to bed that evening, I wished my husband good night, adding “Thanks for ruining my day.” He laughed and I did too.
Since becoming legally biind, all my other senses have been heightened.
Especially my sense of humor.
