To Crop Or Not To Crop

life
Posted on April 16, 2025 By Sister Rain

I recently heard a photographer say that you don’t want to crop too much out of a photo, that the subject in its element is important.

This made me think about our lives. We are all made up of so many components; it is very rare that any of those individual pieces stand alone. Everything we think, do and say is the result of all our parts. We can’t remove a piece and capture an accurate . . . well . . . us. The only way to get the whole picture is to show the areas we consider ugly or unimportant, to include the things that are antithetical to what we think people want to see . . . and know . . . of us.

Yes, a picture paints a thousand words. But only if it is complete.
