Virginia Mason Athletic Center

Have you ever gone on a tour to see where your favorite chocolate is made or the pretzels you have loved since you were a kid?

My husband and I are huge Seattle Seahawks fans. We have been fortunate to attend several games in Seattle over the last 30 years. On our most recent trip in October, we drove to Renton, Washington to see Virginia Mason Athletic Center, the team’s headquarters and practice facility. Although we could only get as far as the parking lot and probably should not have even been there, it was close enough . . . at least for now.

Before arriving at there, we saw “Seahawks Way” as well as the sign announcing the home of the Seahawks. We quickly pulled over as far as we could on the road, both jumping out of the car so I could take Mister Rain’s picture.

V-MAC, as it is known, is a 200,000 square foot waterfront compound which rests on the shores of Lake Washington. We have seen photographs and video footage of the complex since it opened in 2008. The location is beautiful. There are three outdoor fields where fans can watch practice during training camp. Inside is an indoor practice installation, the team’s entire front office, a training facility and player meeting space.

Even if you cannot look behind it, sometimes it is enough to just see the curtain . . . at least for now.
