If you are going to make the life-changing decision to bring a bird into your family, you must be prepared for noise. Now, just like humans, the amount of said noise varies based on species and the individual’s personality.
Piper is a conure, a type of parrot generally considered loud. He, however, is not really noisy. Sure, if we are playing he gets excited. When we pretend to yell at him for throwing his toys on the floor, he will often sass us back. If we are not moving quickly enough for him at snack time, things can reach an apocalyptic pitch. Should he want our attention, he will call for his flock. Spotting someone out the window in front of our house, he will produce a warning call. But there are also random, albeit infrequent, occurrences of Piper screaming for no apparent reason. In these moments, I am reminded he is a bird.
And that a quiet bird can be a symptom of a sick bird.
I have no doubt that it can be a challenge if your feathered friend is of a high-decibel nature. Even with Piper’s moderate level, there are moments when it perches on my last nerve.
But a healthy Piper is the most beautiful sound in the world.
