In my job, I manage meetings not only in the United States but all over the world. I’ve begun working on two new meetings with my Event Coordinator, who is from our Russian office.
What you must understand is that I am a simple girl with a huge heaping of tomboy lumped in for good measure who was born and raised in a town with a current population of 4,800 people. I now live 5 miles from my parents’ house and married a boy who went to the same high school as me (although we didn’t meet until 7 years after I graduated). I love to travel and I know this is a big ole world so please don’t judge me, but I am more than happy to travel around this “land that I love” and go no further than “sea to shining sea”. But it’s part of the job and I knew it going in.
As I sit at my desk and type up my notes from the call I had this morning with my Russian colleague, I realize that Sister Rain’s world just got a whole lot bigger. The meetings we are working on will take place in Barcelona and Rome. Neither location is 5 miles from my parents’ home.
I guess the good news is that in my mid-40s I am still challenging myself to do things that are out of my comfort zone. I’m still putting on my Big Girl Panties on a daily basis. I wonder if Halle Berry, who is a year younger than I am, ever has to put on her Big Girl Panties? My guess is no.
