Piper has been through a lot in his eleven years: hatched in Florida, lived with a family for a few years, was surrendered by them to the rescue in New York, then moved with it to New Jersey, where I found him. And yet from the first morning after we brought him home from the rescue, he has welcomed every new day with a lot of enthusiasm. I snapped this picture as soon as I opened his door this morning and he climbed on top. In the seconds it took me to take the photo, his one foot was up, waiting for my finger. Talk about hitting the perch running!
Piper’s joy is most definitely contagious. It is the guaranteed best part of my day and I am always excited to watch him rush to greet me and the day as soon as I approach his mansion. I wasn’t there when he hatched but I have not one doubt that he entered the world the same way.
Piper reminds me every morning that life is an adventure and inspires me to live like I’ve been rescued. Which, of course, I have.
