During the first weeks after a vacation, I am always thinking about what I was doing at that same day of the week and time while I was away.
Friday, 2 pm: Whale Watch, Boothbay Harbor, Maine.
Sunday, 4 pm: Seahawks game, Lunen Field, Seattle, Washington.
Wednesday, 7 am: Pink Jeep Tour, Sedona, Arizona.
Do you do this too?
Although it doesn’t come natural, when I am on holiday (a writer needs a lot of synonyms, this one is not above going across the pond to get them), I do make an effort during the trip to compare what I am doing now, enjoying a cocktail at a restaurant inside an actual tugboat, versus what I would be doing at home at that moment, making dinner. Living in the moment is important, but recognizing the differences between then and now adds an extra layer of gratitude for the break from your daily grind and responsibilities.
I firmly believe you must always have something to look forward to. I also know that my memories of the places I have been along with the adventures I have experienced sustain me. And I cannot wait to see what I did next.
