I am terrible with measurements. For example, I was recently looking for a new birdbath (for the outside birds, not Piper) as our old one broke last fall. The online listing would say 22”, prompting me to get a tape measure to see what that looked like. Of course I can imagine a yardstick or a ruler, but I still need a reference tool. Even then, I can’t tell you how many times I have purchased a product having confirmed the size, only to receive the item, leaving me to wonder if the seller had used the metric system.
Being excited about Sister Rain’s new brand, I’ve been buying some fun objects with my new logo on them. Temporary tattoos, for example, from Sticker You. I’ve always wanted the real deal, I’ve been thinking perhaps once I hit a yet to be determined number of Sister Rain readers, I would get a permanent logo on the inside of my arm above my wrist. Trying it out seemed like a good idea, so I had some ephemeral images made. I also had nail polish created by Blank Beauty to match Sister Rain blue. Lastly, so far anyway, I wanted a necklace to both advertise and keep Sister Rain with me at all times. As described above, I found a vendor online, reviewed size options, got my tape measure, compared pendant sizes with some of my stud earrings, finally putting it in my cart then checking out. It didn’t take long for my package to arrive, I was so excited! I opened the padded envelope, removed the pendant – it felt like it was the size of a hubcap. I can’t wear this! I would look like Flavor Flav with a giant clock around his neck. I MEASURED!!!
I tried again with a different shop, Heidi Kind Finds. This time, I got it right, I wear it all the time.
You know how carpenters say, “Measure twice, cut once.”? My experience is measure multiple times, place multiple orders.
