I have been working as a temporary employee for the past 6 weeks at an organization that works with the county’s school district, providing services for children who need them. I have been doing project work for them and spend most of my day with files and a laptop. I don’t interact with children but on Friday I was called down to Human Resources. I never got the necessary clearances because neither the organization I’m working for nor the employment agency who put me there never thought of it until my manager tried to get me a badge so I could work the copier/printer/scanner. High security equipment and all.
One of the clearances was an FBI clearance which was going to cost me $50 until the Human Resources person said they would pay for it. Uh, yeah, cause for what I’m making an hour that would be almost a full day’s work. I also had to get a state police clearance. Roger that.
Lastly, I had to get fingerprinted. Yes, that’s right. Fingerprinted. So I can create Excel spreadsheets, keep up with the filing and do database work. My thumb, pointer finger, ring finger and pinkie on both hands were electronically scanned. Gone are the days of ink pads and stains for weeks which, I will admit, did greatly diminish the whole experience.
The finger I enjoyed scanning was the middle finger. That I don’t mind being recorded for all of history. After all, it’s the perfect image for my job search.
