The City That Never Sleeps But Always Inspires

Posted on January 16, 2010March 12, 2017 By Sister Rain

I spent Saturday in New York City and one of my stops was the 86th Floor Observation Deck of the Empire State Building.

I found myself looking down:

— at a city that has been through so much. Not only has it survived, it thrives.

— at the Hudson River that 366 days ago found itself to be a runway for a US Airways Airbus. In that cold January water, 155 out of 155 souls survived.

— at a robust skyline, yet knowing that two very important towers are no longer there. I thought about the people who were lost that day and the people to whom they were lost. I thought about the people who survived that day but had to learn a new normal that the rest of us can never conceive.

Looking for a job can feel like a life or death situation but of course it is not. But remembering the life and death this city has experienced inspires me.

If they can make it there, they can make it anywhere.

And so can I.
