The traditional gift for a 25th wedding anniversary is silver, just like the color of our hair after a quarter of a century of wedded bliss. Today is that milestone for my husband and me and we really can’t believe it. We both remember October 3, 1992 like it was yesterday when my groom surprised me by inscribing
HAPPINESS • LAUGHTER • LOVE
inside my wedding band. That Saturday so many years ago was filled with all three of these sentiments and although our marriage is not perfect, and the dots between the good wishes represent some very difficult times, those three words prevail.
On a recent Saturday while running our weekly monotonous errands, my husband made me laugh so hard I spit water all over the dashboard of our car. When I look back on our wedding day now, we were so naive and innocent about the ups and downs of a life. If we had been told the future I don’t think we would have been able to comprehend it. But had we also been told that we would still be making each other laugh like we do, maybe that was all we would ever need to know.
