On our last night in Port Orchard, Washington, we ended our wonderful week-long stay by going to Carter And Company for ice cream. It was a lovely night, so we took our cones outside. Two young men approached, one carrying flowers and a sign. They discussed a plan of some sort, involving going inside to get a sundae. Both moving to enter the store, the one who appeared to be the one who would be enacting the plan told the other to stay with the items he had set on the table. Before I could offer to watch them, a woman sitting inside volunteered through the open window.
When the friend came out of the shop alone, my husband asked what the occasion was. “Homecoming,” was the reply. “I’m the cameraman.” “What are the chances of a yes?,” I wanted to know. “It’s a sure thing,” the loyal partner confidently proclaimed.
We hung around long past the pointy end of our cones were gone, waiting to watch the moment. Finally, we decided to leave, we had an early flight in the morning. As we walked by the duo, “Good luck!,” I extended. Mister Rain then questioned where the video would be posted and was told “on the Gram.” “What handle?,” my own loyal partner countered, receiving the address in return.
I was not able to find him on the Gram, so here I am. I plan to send this story to the Port Orchard high school to find out what she said. Flowers, ice cream, and a best buddy there to assist. She’d be a fool to say no.
ADDENDUM:
I sent this story to the assistant principal at the high school, providing her with the name of the young man. She shared it with him and he thought it was “pretty cool”, remembering my husband and me hoping to learn the outcome that evening.
The young lady did say yes to going to Homecoming with him, they had a great time. A better cherry on top I cannot imagine.
