Fourteen years ago this week, Piper chose my husband and me to be his parronts. Three months and two days after bringing him home, I woke up blind with no warning. (To read our story, click here for the first installment of Piper & Me: A Love Story.)
Fourteen years seems like a long time when really it is nothing more than the closing of Piper’s eyes while perched on my hand at 11 am on a regular Friday morning. Leg lifted, foot curled into a ball. This small 100-gram parrot with the “big personality” (that’s a direct quote from his listing on PetFinder.com) trusts me enough to not only take a nap on me, but in the knowledge that I will stop what I am doing so he can rest.
We’ve both got the other right where we want them.
Happy 14th Gotcha Day, Piper!
