The empty photo at the top of this post is not a mistake, it is full of emojis. However,I cannot see emojis. Certainly not the end of the world in the grand scheme of life in vision loss, but it is worth mentioning because of that fact. It is something I am presented with at least once a day that I am unable to see or participate in, yet it does not bother me in the least. I am a trendy gal for a woman on the other side of several numbers I shall not name, but this one has escaped me for anatomical reasons. I have let most of my texting partners know, the response across the board has been, “Even if you enlarge it?” I do not know if the suspicion is that I am just bucking the system, that I have decided this is the digital communication hill I will die on: round faces with every imaginable expression, the white thumbs up that blends into the white background. It is not about how big I can get the graphic, it has to do with colors and contrast. I am told that in this photo there are five different emojis, but this is what it looks like to me.
As my tagline says, I’m all about emotion and I love me some technology, but I am going to have to sit this one out. If you want me to know what you are trying to tell me, please use emojis for the visually impaired: words.
