We have all heard that when someone’s time on this earth is in peril, their life can flash before their eyes. I’m guessing that when the term “life” is used, it encompasses the good, the bad and the in-between.
There is a fun way to see just the good in one quick look, you do not need to be facing your demise to do so. Simply open the Photos app on your iPhone, then click on Recents. Instead of the familiar pinch-to-enlarge movement, pinch together so that all your pictures are now condensed into microscopic squares. These tiny blocks of seconds clicked into posterity blend to create a beautiful patchwork of all your moments deemed save-worthy for the entire time you’ve had an iPhone. Even with my limited vision, I can make out the kaleidoscope of life in photos, the montage making a unique photo of its own. If you screenshot it, it’s suitable for framing, your important, fleeting instants now permanent. (The picture at the top of this post has been blurred to protect my privacy.)
In my case, I don’t see color except certain shades of blue, one being “The Devil Wears Prada” Miranda Priestley’s cerulean. When I look at my masterpiece, I quickly pick out magnificent skies peppered throughout. I can tell you the locations represented by those flashes of bright never-ending nature’s ceiling when I think back on my iPhone life, which began in 2012. Since you most likely have your full sight, you may be able to quickly discern other hues and shapes that easily identify an event or place within the mass of images you have captured.
Life is a work of art, including the rough parts. But it is very grounding to look at your happiest moments, side by side, one big joyous existence. That is the ending I want. If I am lucky, there will be thousands more tiles added to my priceless mosaic, documenting another 40 years post this post of the good that is yet to come.
