We have jumped the shark . . . er, the parrot.
The Great Pumpkin has sprinkled its pumpkinness everywhere and you either love it or you hate it. The early arrival of the flavor, before summer is officially over, is of great debate.
There are pumpkin Little Debbies, Goldfish Crackers, Twinkies, Pepperidge Farm Milanos, Werther’s Original Hard Candies, Life and Cheerios Cereals and Nestle Tollhouse Morsels.
I should not have been surprised, but was, to learn that Piper’s favorite treat, Nutri-berries*, have joined the annual craze.
Piper is pretty finicky, refusing people-food no matter what the offering. In fact, he is afraid of any new food we try to give him, acting as if it were proffering poison. His dad loves a PSL (click here), pumpkin pie, pumpkin ice cream; he has also tried Oreos and Pop-Tarts. I am hoping it will be in Piper’s DNA (deoxyribonucleic adopted); also, he has yet to meet a Nutri-berry he didn’t like, so maybe, just maybe.
And after all, though he is a little parrot and not a little girl, you might say that sugar and pumpkin spice, and everything nice, that’s what Piper is made of.
* Nutri-berries are nutritionally complete, berry-shaped bird treats made by Lafeber’s. They consist of hulled seeds, grains, and nuts rolled into a round shape that birds can easily hold and pull apart.
