Something’s Afoot

After my husband gave Piper his weekly shower in our bathroom (click here), he brought down a smelly, wet bird. Mister Rain then went to do a few things, but returned soon after and stood by the mansion (we never call it a cage). I didn’t know what he was doing, but he continued to stay in this position for several minutes.

“Is something wrong?,” I asked, feeling my stomach begin to churn.

“He’s got a white bump on his one foot.”

I stayed sitting where I was in the adjacent room, noticing my husband was taking a picture of Piper with his phone. Walking over to me, he handed me his device. Enlarging the photo, I looked at Piper’s left zygodactyl.*

“Is it a feather?,” Mister Rain suggested.

“I think it is. It must be stuck to him from the water.” I let out a sigh of relief.

A short time later, the mystery-solved adhesion was gone.

Being a parront is all fun and games until somebirdy is possibly at risk. Flocked together, a feather of a bird can cause a ruffle.

* Zygodactyl describes a bird’s foot with two toes pointing forward and two toes pointing backward.
