When looking for someone to share your life with, I think one of the major draws is imagining that over time, you will know as much as you possibly can about the person, settling into a comfortable companionship where calm is not a bad thing. The drama that can come with searching for the right partner is far behind you.
Piper and I have been together for almost 14 years. We know each other very well. Although we have different native tongues (in Piper’s case, rubbery), I speak Piper and the same can certainly be said of Piper understanding me. His “night night” sound has me getting him ready for bed. My “No!” has him continuing his behavior, but that’s willfulness, not a language barrier.
There are times, however, when I really cannot predict what Piper is going to do next, though I do recognize the signs that he is cooking up something. And I love it.
He is not a wild bird, but sometimes Piper is a wild card. This could not be more appropriate; after all, when he came to live with my husband and me, he turned our home into a full house.
