Articles, essays, and features about Piper.
Born and raised a Philadelphia Phillies fan, I was in elementary school when the Phanatic moved from the Galápagos Islands to become the mascot for the team in 1978. Many people have pointed out that Piper has the same coloring as the Phanatic, green feathers with blue on their heads….
“Sometimes you are a big fish in a little pond. Sometimes you are a 12” bird in a 40” box. Either way, it is up to you to decide how long you remain where you are.” —- Sister Rain #sisterrain #alittlesightalotofheart #piper #birdmom #conure #parrot #bird #conuresofinstagram #parrotsofinstagram #birdsofinstagram…
I never had a human child but as a youngster myself I remember being warned, more than once, about never putting a plastic bag over my head. Piper loves plastic bags. Always supervised, I sometimes allow him to play with them. And so when he climbed down my arm to…

Piper loves to throw things on the floor. Knowing mom or dad will pick them up, he only does it when we are close by. With that in mind, I thought it would be a good idea to dump a box full of packing peanuts on the table for Piper…
If you think Piper is not excited and proud to be perched in his new carrier, you are mistaken. Purchased specifically to make it easier for his veterinarian to remove him to be examined at his annual check-up (the old one presented some challenges), Piper liked his new travel gear…

Piper is a rock star when it comes to keeping his feathers in good condition. Sure, we give him a shower each week, “Wet Wednesdays” (not that kind of website, people), but Piper spends a good part of his day preening the feathers all over his body. He is so…
Drowned rat? Porcupine? A fire-breathing dragon? No, it’s a conure after his weekly shower, sporting his springtime pin feathers as new plumage grows in. It’s an itchy, slightly uncomfortable, tiring process for my little man. While he natures, I nurture, giving him extra cuddle time and reminding myself not to…
Although eating chocolate would kill Piper, an empty Reese’s box is perfectly safe. The irony? I can eat chocolate at no risk but this little guy’s sweetness just may be the death of me. #sisterrain #alittlesightalotofheart #piper #birdmom #conure #parrot #bird #conuresofinstagram #parrotsofinstagram #birdsofinstagram #parrotlife #instaparrot #adoptdontshop #ahelpingwingparrotrescue #reeses…
