The Accessibility features on the iPhone and iPad have been lifesavers for me since my vision became so devastatingly challenged. Today is all about the Flashlight. I used it this morning to find an earring I dropped in my bedroom and it saved both my blood pressure and my knees because I found it quickly and from a standing position.
If you’re not familiar with this component of the iPhone, I will warn you not to shine it in your or anyone else’s eyes. It is incredibly bright but that’s what makes it so helpful to someone with low vision such as myself. I use it to light my path when walking at night, a particularly perilous activity for those of us with impaired sight.
I have done a screen grab of the instructions for accessing the iPhone Flashlight from iMore.com.
No matter where you live, you have no doubt experienced some type of weather event that required checking batteries in flashlights. Even with all the technology available to us, the OG flashlight is still the first line of defense in an emergency. In everyday life, while not a crisis situation, darkness on top of already dark vision can be a dangerous place. Using the iPhone Flashlight has the same effect as grabbing the flashlight in the drawer when a storm hits: safety and security. Even for those of us whose power is always out.
