As I’ve mentioned before, I love history as it relates to the birth of our country and I am so grateful that I live so close to where it all began — Philadelphia. I have visited all the historic sites there many times as well as in Boston and other National Parks. I have always thought I’d love to be a Park Ranger and give tours of these places so full of history.
While doing the job search, I go on the National Park Service’s web site all the time to look for Ranger openings in the Philadelphia area. However, most of these positions require a law enforcement background which I do not have.
Let me assure you, even if I’m not packing heat I am going to do EVERYTHING I can to protect our national treasures. I would not hesitate to tackle someone trying to steal the Liberty Bell or give a roundhouse kick to anyone trying to walk off with the chair Ben (you know, my friend Benjamin Franklin as discussed in blog post “WWBD?” on 4/22/10) sat in at Independence Hall.
I’d like to ask the Park Service to please rethink their requirements. I would swear to do everything and anything to protect and educate.
And I’d look really cool in the hat!
