Although we are flawed as human beings, it occurred to me the other day that there are perfect moments. Your child snuggled up against you in bed as you read them a story. Locking eyes with your soon-to-be husband waiting for you at the altar.
There are perfect places too. Granted, they usually involve a vacation, a destination where bills and work and the leaking roof do not exist. As I stood facing the Bush compound in Kennebunkport, Maine, I could not see its detail. That would come later when I was able to enlarge the photos my husband took. I could, however, make out the outline of the buildings, the rocks, the bright blue sky. I could hear the waves, the gulls. On this pin on a map at this exact seconds that would never come again, this was as good as it gets.
We spend a lot of time and energy in the course of our lifetime chasing perfection. What we don’t realize is that it is pursuing us too. And sometimes it catches us.
