Owning It

life
Posted on June 10, 2026 By Sister Rain

During a recent trip, one of the places my husband and I visited had a mandatory shuttle for a portion of its area; you could not venture to it on your own. Mister Rain and I weighed our options, taking into consideration our time constraints and the limitations that would be associated with being at someone else’s mercy and schedule.

“Let’s just do our own thing,” my husband suggested at the end of our discussion. “We always make out well doing that.”

And so we headed to the section we were permitted to explore by ourselves.

There is the well-known expression, “Do the right thing,” but equally important is the method of operation of doing your own thing. There is no one in the world quite like you, therefore, there is nothing like the way you approach and execute everything.

Sure, there will be times when it’s necessary, for a myriad of reasons, to participate in the mandatory, and that can be a great experience. But when left with a choice, owning it is often the best way to go.
