At The Bottom Of The Steps, I Stared  (An Optic-Neuropathy Illusion)

There is a great irony in the fact that I cannot see very well yet sometimes I see things that no one else does.

The latest optic-neuropathy illusion occurred in my home as I came down the steps early one morning. We keep a night light on for Piper and it illuminated the newel post at the bottom of the stairs, with its light on top, under its original glass globe from 1903. The shadow on the wall looked like an enlarged Piper sitting atop the banister. I knew he was still sleeping in his mansion but I still had the thought that it was him.

The image has greeted me several mornings since then, always catching me off guard. I spend a good part of my life attempting to convey to my eyes what my brain knows to be true. Who needs Wordle or Sudoku when you’ve got optic-neuropathy.

Other Optic-Neuropathy Illusions:
“The Quicker Picker Lamper3”
“Wipe That Smile Off Your Cheeks”
“Cello, Doggie“
