I am a Tammy Texter. I stand in my truth. Texting is my method of communication with the people in my life. I don’t keep the ringer on on my phone, no one is calling me and vice versa. If I am expecting an voice call it is usually of a professional nature, and then I turn the sound on so I don’t miss it. During COVID I a lot of video calls with my friends in lieu of the long lunches and dinners that are our norm.
The other day I had a phone conversation with a friend I don’t text daily. We hadn’t been able to get together for a few months and I felt out of touch with her so I dialed her digits .While the line was still ringing, she texted and asked if she could get back to me in a bit. I replied sure, adding that nothing was wrong, that I was just checking in. She did phone me back shortly after and we had a great catch-up. Ever since we hung up a few days ago, I have been thinking how nice it was to talk.
We are all short on time, always looking for an easy and convenient way to get things done since there is always so much to do. I think, though, that resurrecting this old school method of connecting is worth revisiting. My friends and I laugh a lot and no LOL in the world can take the place of hearing one of them belly chuckle at something I have said. And no “XO” at the end of a text is as good as a verbal “I love you” as you say goodbye.
Call me. I’ll have the ringer on.
